October has seen only 2,337 new cases of Covid-19 recorded in Meghalaya, lower even than April, which was the start of the second wave in the state.
April saw 2,781 new coronavirus infections. However, October has still seen more Covid deaths than April, 46 to 21.
Today, there were 22 new cases, 51 recoveries and one fatality.
The lone death was in East Khasi Hills and the person was unvaccinated, the Health Department informed.
East Khasi Hills recorded 14 new cases today and there were eight between the other 10 districts.
East Khasi Hills accounted for 18 recoveries, West Khasi Hills 27 and there were six between the other nine districts.
There are now 431 active Covid-19 cases in the state. East Khasi Hills alone accounts for 284 active cases, West Khasi Hills 56, West Jaintia Hills 28, Ri-Bhoi 24, West Garo Hills 12, East Garo Hills 10, South West Khasi Hills six, East Jaintia Hills four, South West Garo Hills three, North Garo Hills three and South Garo Hills one.
In all, Meghalaya has had 83,627 Covid-19 cases, of which 431 are active, 81,746 have recovered and 1,450 have died from the virus. The recovery rate is 97.75 percent. The fatality is 1.73 percent. The seven-day rolling average for new cases is 36.57 and for new deaths is 0.57 (lowest since April 20).
