In connection with the upcoming Meghalaya Assembly election on February 27 and in compliance with the standard operating procedures relating to the seizure and release of seizures made during the period when the Model Code of Conduct is in place, the district committee for examining cases of seizure in Eastern West Khasi Hills has been constituted.
The committee comprises Additional Deputy Commissioner CP Mawkon, Nodal Officer for Expenditure Monitoring VA Hynniewta and Treasury Officer B Kharkongor as Chairman, Convener and Member respectively.
The committee shall suo-moto examine each case of seizure made by the police, static surveillance team or flying squad and where the committee finds that no FIR/complaint has been filed against the seizure or linked with any candidate or political party or any election campaign, etc, it shall take immediate steps to order the release of such items to such persons from whom they were seized after passing a speaking order to that effect within seven days.
