The Voice of the People Party (VPP) has announced a further two candidates to run in the February 27 Meghalaya Assembly election under its banner.
The two are G Phailin Nongrum for Sohra and Bobby Kharshandi for Nongstoiñ.
This takes the total number of party candidates to 18.
Last week, the nascent party revealed its election symbol for the polls, a winnower, or ‘U Prah’ in Khasi.
Meanwhile, the party has thanked the people of Pynursla who attended an election rally in the village yesterday and donated Rs 14,760 to the party’s cause.
“I on behalf of the Voice of the People Party would like to express my sincere gratitude to our esteemed supporters. You have been our source of strength and motivation to fight the election on ethical principles of clean politics. Without your wholehearted support we will not be able to reach this far,” party spokesperson Batskhem Myrboh said in a release today.
“The party invites each one of the voters of Meghalaya who have the concern for the future of our children and our state to join us in this difficult but possible struggle to transform the politics of Meghalaya. Let our beloved state be the role model for the rest of India,” he added.
A VPP rally in Shillong last week raised Rs 1.7 lakh in donations.
