Shillong, Apr 15: Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma today toured West Khasi Hills district to interact with residents and inaugurate infrastructures there.
At Ksehkohlong a CM Connect programme was held wherein residents raised concerns over pertaining to community led tourism projects, internal link roads to villages, salaries of private school teachers etc among others. Residents also presented memorandums to the Chief Minister on specific needs.
The chief minister assured the residents that the government stands committed to engaging and working towards addressing the concerns reaffirming the government’s commitment to ensure equitable and inclusive development.
Sangma also inspected the tourism site at Nohthlong and inaugurated the RMSA School Mawlieh, first established as a private school run by a community of seven villages in 1961 to provide education to the people of the area. It is one of the oldest educational centres in West Khasi Hills especially in Rambrai area and was later provincialised to a fully government upper primary school. It was upgraded to a secondary level under Samagra during the years 2014-2015 and to higher secondary Level 2023-24.
The Nongstoiñ C&RD Block Development office constructed at Rs 10 crore was also inaugurated by the chief minister
“Today we have 56 C&RD blocks that is a testament to the decentralised administrative framework of governance to ensure development reaches every household with empowered, well-equipped institution at the grassroots,” he said during the programme. He informed that 40 Block Integrated Development complexes have been created across the state out of which 16 have been completed.
Sangma highlighted various developmental projects and infrastructures for West Khasi Hills. He said 120 infrastructural projects are going on in the district with a total outlay of Rs 1,315 crore with Rs 685 crore under PWD focussing on 33 road development projects, Rs 200 crore projects in Tourism, Rs 120 crore in PHE and Rs 106 crore in education among the many other projects. The road from Nongstoiñ to Sopian of Rs 22 crore has been sanctioned under CRF, he added.
Sangma also inaugurated a PRIME Hub at Pyndenglawar. It is a strategic investment in West Khasi Hills built with an investment of Rs 5.92 crore to focus on value chain creation, local winery products, medicinal and aromatic herbs, floriculture and ginger value-added products and is expected to benefit over 3500 farmers.
During his visit the chief minister also inaugurated the New Nongstoiñ Durbar Hall.
