Shillong, Apr 15: The All Selsella NGOs’ Alliance has made an appeal for immediate attention from the Public Works Department (PWD) regarding the dire conditions of the Selsella-Kalchengpara and Selsella Mission Compound roads.
In a letter addressed to the Chief Engineer of PWD-R, the organisation has requested a thorough technical inspection and the allocation of sufficient funds for repair and maintenance.
The organisation said the roads are crucial for the local community, serving the daily transportation needs of commuters, students, patients, government officials, and transport vehicles. Unfortunately, they are currently in a severely deteriorated state, marked by numerous potholes, uneven surfaces, and waterlogging, rendering them nearly unmotorable. This situation is compounded during the rainy season, which significantly increases the risk of accidents, breakdowns, and delays in essential services, it said.
Despite ongoing grievances voiced by locals and organizations, little to no substantial improvement efforts have been made, raising serious concerns about public safety and infrastructure management, the organisation added.
