A resident of Balmikram village in North Garo Hills district has lodged a complaint with the Deputy Commissioner against a medical team for refusing to renew her smart card sans an Aadhaar.
Tengmerry S Sangma stated that a medical team from Resubelpara had visited the village on May 12. “I approached the team for renewal of my smart card, but they refused to process my application due to lack of an Aadhaar card, stating that it is mandatory,” she said.
Sangma is aggrieved because as per the Supreme Court Aadhaar is not mandatory for various services. Additionally, Meghalaya falls under the Sixth Schedule of the Indian Constitution, which provides certain exemptions, she added.
Seeking action against the medical team for their refusal to provide service despite exemption applicable to Meghalaya, Sangma urged the DC to guide her on how to renew her smart card.
