The College of Community Science (CCS) in Tura, under the Central Agricultural University (CAU) in Imphal, received a visit from the Vice-Chancellor, Anupam Mishra, on May 19.
Mishra was accompanied by CAU Imphal Director of Instructions Indira sarangthem. CCS Tura Dean, Jyoti V Vastrad, joined the visitors in an interaction meeting with staff and students of Garudachal Vidyapeeth Secondary School in Belbari, South West Garo Hills.
The school authorities highlighted the need for teacher training and Mishra proposed a collaboration to conduct teacher training through CCS Tura’s Department of Human Development and Family Studies.
Additionally, they discussed programmes aimed at improving the livelihoods of people living along the international border, emphasising the role of education and community development.
Meanwhile, the Resource-cum-Custom Hiring Centre established by CCS Tura at Dighlapara village in South West Garo Hills, was inaugurated the same day by Mishra.
The centre is under the All India Coordinated Research Project (WIA), funded by ICAR-CIWA, Bhubaneswar.
The centre was established with a vision to promote farm mechanisation among women. This initiative will enhance awareness and knowledge of farm women on technologies, promote financial status through time management and increased productivity and health status by reducing the workload and the drudgery the women perceived in performance of pre- and post-harvest activities, a press release stated yesterday.
