The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has proven to be insensitive to the perception of the people by siding with the National People’s Party (NPP) so soon after accusing the latter of rampant corruption during campaigning for the recent state election, Dr Mukul Sangma of the Trinamool Congress said yesterday.
“Maybe they (the BJP) are insensitive to the overall perception of people but I’m personally very sensitive to the perception of how you would like to be known and remembered,” he said, adding that the saffron party does not know how to walk the talk. “If the BJP has been spewing so much rhetoric on corruption and, suddenly realising that they do not have the numbers (to form a government), compromise, that is not what the people expect.”
Meanwhile, he blamed money and muscle power for the NPP’s win and TMC’s abject defeat. The TMC won just five seats to the NPP’s 26. However, the latter’s strength was concentrated in Garo Hills and Jaintia Hills and Dr Sangma said that, in contrast, the people of Khasi Hills were loud and clear in their rejection of money as an influence on their vote.
