Shillong, Aug 1: Meghalaya will participate in a nationwide campaign against drug abuse with Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi virtually addressing over 1 crore youth on Sunday under the Nasha Mukt Yuva for Viksit Bharat Sankalp Abhiyan.
The state-level event in Meghalaya will be hosted at Governor’s House, Shillong. The campaign will connect 10,000 locations across the country with the aim of getting youth to commit to a drug-free lifestyle as part of the Viksit Bharat @2047 vision.
Participants nationwide will take a collective pledge. The public can also take the e-Pledge on the MY Bharat Portal.
From August 2, every Sunday will feature activities including sports, cultural events, fitness, meditation, awareness drives and community programmes to engage youth over the next two years.
Officials said the long-term campaign is aimed at keeping the anti-substance abuse message alive at the grassroots, with schools, colleges, NGOs and youth groups expected to participate.
The Shillong programme will bring together state officials, youth volunteers and representatives from across Meghalaya.
