Khliehriat, Nov 5: The office of the Deputy Commissioner, East Jaintia Hills District today distributed sanction orders amounting to Rs. 16.71 lakh under the Chief Minister’s Youth Development Scheme (CMYDS) 2024-25 to various NGOs, societies, associations and clubs under the Wapung, Saipung and Lumshnong blocks.
The programme was held at the Deputy Commissioner’s office in Khliehriat and was attended by Sutnga -Saipung MLA Santa Mary Shylla
In her address Shylla stated that the government is fully committed to supporting the youth of the state through various initiatives and schemes in the fields of sports, skill development and entrepreneurship through schemes including CM-Elevate, PRIME Meghalaya, etc; initiatives which aim to enhance youth employability and self-reliance.
Shylla also informed that the district administration continues to implement various interventions and programmes to prevent the youth from engaging in harmful habits, emphasising the importance of guiding them towards productive paths.
She urged all beneficiaries to make proper and judicious use of the sanctioned funds for the betterment of the youth in the district thus enabling them to participate in meaningful activities in order to become responsible members of the society.
Deputy Commissioner Shivansh Awasthi informed that the Meghalaya Youth Policy provides a broader framework for youth empowerment, under which the CMYDS operates. While the CMYDS is an older scheme, the guidelines were revised in recent years to provide greater flexibility to district administration in approving diverse proposals from local societies and organisations.
He appreciated the enthusiasm of local youth groups and appealed to organisations and educational institutions to diversify their activities beyond conventional sports tournaments and awareness programmes. He encouraged them to initiate training programmes on areas such as photography, marketing and computer skills and to organise study tours and exposure trips to reputed institutions including IIT Guwahati and ISRO Bengaluru to inspire students and young professionals.
