Shillong, Aug 24: The Meghalaya High Court has noted that apart from office bearers of the Khasi Students Union (KSU), no further arrests have been made in connection with the violence on August 19.
“The cases registered on vandalism and assault have been produced before the Court. It is noticed that perhaps the investigation is going on, but apart from the arrest of the office bearers, there has been no further arrest made of the persons connected with the incidents,” the court observed.
A bench of Justice Hamarsan Singh Thangkhiew and Justice Wanlura Diengdoh was informed by Advocate General A. Kumar that a Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been formed for an expeditious probe into the incidents.
The state produced a status report and details of cases registered for vandalism and assault.
The court observed that two high court vehicles in which officers were present were also attacked and a PSO and a driver assaulted.
It directed the state to produce the case diaries in those cases and said expeditious investigation should be given to all cases, including the attack on a public transport bus.
The matter will be heard on September 1 for a fresh status report and production of case diaries.
