It was a dream come true for an elderly couple in West Jaiñtia Hills district as they received a new home on Republic Day.
Lily Tariang, a resident of Hawai Bhoi village under Amlarem C&RD Block, West Jaiñtia Hills district and her husband had been living in a tin shed taking care of three grandchildren, who lost their mother.
The house was built under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana – Gramin (PMAY-G) with the aid of Jaintia Hills Development Society through Khublei, Germany and with the support of various stakeholders at Rs. 3, 32,000.
The contributions under PMAY was Rs. 1.30, lakh, MGNREGA Rs. 22,000, Khublei Rs. 1.70 lakh and Pynskhem Village Organisation (VO) Rs.10, 000.
Additional Deputy Commissioner and Project Director of DRDA FB Basan along with the collaborators ceremoniously handed over the house to the family.
Basan informed that the PMAY (G) is a flagship mission of the Indian government to provide housing to the rural poor. He informed that as part of the programme houses are being constructed under this scheme and handed over to the beneficiaries. He also informed that this is the second house collaborated with JHDS, the first one was at Moosakhia Village which was handed to the beneficiary on December 23, 2023.
Stressing the need for collaboration and collective effort towards progress and growth, he emphasised the importance of unity and teamwork in achieving common goals.
He reminded that the Republic Day is a day that reminds citizens to embrace new possibilities and move forward.
Basan expressed his gratitude to the Khublei Germany through the JHDS for contribution and collaboration in building a house for the less fortunate and hope that the collaboration will continue for more years to come. He also acknowledged the office of Block Development officer, Amlarem, village leaders and the VO towards completing the construction of this house in just 90 days.
Tariang and her husband express profound joy and extend heartfelt gratitude to their generous benefactors.
