North Garo Hills Police rescued a 26-year-old man from Wage’Asi A’brong village who was allegedly kidnapped by a gang of eight or more persons.
According to a press communique, the victim, Leeku G Momin, was kidnapped on March 31 at around 12:30am from his residence at a bachelors’ dormitory in his village.
Upon being notified of the crime, Superintendent of Police Bruno A Sangma launched an immediate rescue operation.
The police search team included personnel from the Central Reserve Police Force. They recovered the victim from the A’brong jungle at 1pm.
Momin was found to have been severely beaten and had had his arms tied behind his back by his captors. He was rushed to a nearby hospital for a medical examination and treatment.
Momin was unable to identify his kidnappers as they had kept their faces covered. A case has been registered at Kharkutta police station and the hunt is on to nab the perpetrators.
