Shillong, Oct 15: The poor condition of the MDC hostel was a subject of discussion once again in the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) today.
Equator L Nongrang raised the matter, asking whether any funds have been allocated for the repair and renovation of the building.
Finance Executive Member, Seiborlang Warbah, replied that Rs 10 lakh has been allocated but Leader of the Opposition Tittostarwell Chyne dubbed this as insufficient to cover the entire building’s needs.
MDCs highlighted the unhygienic condition of the hostel, with toilets in disrepair, weeds growing on balconies, rats running rampant, etc. In 2023, an MDC spoke of packs of stray dogs and last year there were complaints of loud antisocial activities taking place into the night.
Intervening during the discussion, the Chief Executive Member, Winston Tony Lyngdoh, said Rs 1 crore has been earmarked for the entire KHADC building fund for office maintenance through the 16th Finance Commission.
