Shillong, Oct 15: The Voice of the People Party (VPP) has expressed serious concern over repeated failure of Meghalaya government to submit requisite proposal to the UPSC for convening an empanelment committee meeting for preparation of panel for appointment to post of Director General of Police.
Citing a letter issued by UPSC on September 24, 2026, marked as Reminder-II, VPP said the Commission had earlier written to the state government but the proposal remained awaited, prompting UPSC to remind the government again to comply with directions of the Supreme Court.
The party questioned why the government failed to take necessary steps despite repeated communications, asking whether it was administrative inefficiency, lack of urgency or some other reason, and said people deserve a clear explanation.
“Appointment of head of state police concerns leadership of force, institutional accountability and effective law enforcement and cannot remain pending without explanation, especially when UPSC referred to compliance with Supreme Court directions,” VPP said.
The party demanded the government clarify reasons for delay, disclose present status of proposal and explain action taken to ensure compliance with legal and procedural requirements.
