Hundreds of women today took part in a SHG rally organised from Mawhati to Photkroh in South West Khasi Hills district to celebrate International Women’s Day.
A slogan competition was also organised as part of the celebration, won by the Jarig SHG, Munai. Nangrin SHG, Mawhati and Janggani Tangani, Mawhati stood in the second and third places respectively.
Organised by the District Social Welfare, South West Khasi Hills District in collaboration with the District Legal Services Authority the programme was attended by officer in charge of the Women PS in Mawkyrwat, SI A. Sawkmie who spoke on issues concerning women.
She highlighted on domestic violence, human trafficking, pornography, stalking, cyber crimes and others.
Noshmi Hahshah, Advocate District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), Mawkyrwat spoke on laws that address women issues and L. Marpna, Paralegal Personnel/Lawyer, One Stop Centre (OSC) spoke on gender equality, functions of the OSCs, government schemes and others.
