Shillong, Aug 7: The District Magistrate of East Khasi Hills has issued an order under Sec 163 of the BNSS 2023 banning certain vehicles from parking on the side of National Highways outside of designated areas.
This order applies to any heavy or commercial vehicle from parking, halting or causing such vehicle to stand on the carriageway or paved shoulder of the National Highways, except at a designated parking bay, lay-bye or wayside amenity.
This order takes immediate effect and remains valid for two months unless withdrawn or modified earlier. Contravention is punishable under Sec 223 of the BNS 2023, in addition to action under Sec 122 read with Sec 177 of the Motor Vehicles Act 1988.
