The National Highway Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL) of India has assured that no residents of Shillong Cantonment Area will suffer due to road construction nor any land or house will be dismantled on the civilian side of the area.
The assurance was given b the national highway authority to cabinet minister, Sanbor Shullai during a meeting held at the Jhalupara community hall yesterday.
Shullai said that meeting was held to discuss on the widening options of road construction by the NHIDCL wherein it was also decided that traffic congestion in entire Shillong Cantonment area in particular and Shillong city in general will be managed under the ongoing project.
The meeting was attended by the General Manager NHIDCL, Senior Engineer of Shillong Cantonment Board, Chief Engineer PWD, Executive Engineer PWD (Roads) and various organizations of Shillong Cantonment area including Shillong Cantonment lease holders association, village council and welfare organizations.
