An internal road in Nongshiliang, Nongthymmai locality of Shillong, has been named after a former rangbah shnong, Late Dring Marcel Mawrie for his immense contribution to the development of the locality.
Mawrie, who passed away on February 16, 2021, was the rangbah shnong of Nongshilliang in the 1990s. He along with the then executive members was responsible for bringing about a number of changes to provide residents with the basic requirement of water supply, electrification, roads and other necessities.
To honour his contribution the dorbar shnong has decided to name the road in his memory, which was inaugurated today.
A senior resident of the locality, Ben Syiemlieh attended the programme as the chief guest in presence of Nongshilliang rangbah shnong, Richard Kahit along with the executive members of the dorbar, Seng Longkmie, Fr Glorious Syiemlieh, Parish Priest of Divine Saviour Parish, Nongthymmai, residents of the locality, family of Mawrie and others.
