Three people were arrested by police in Ri-Bhoi on Saturday for using an ambulance to transport alcohol illegally around the district.
The three were identified as Jefferson Nongbsap (the driver), Alfonse Wahlang and Dauglas Kharkrang. The ambulance was only recently donated by NEEPCO to the Umran Niangbyrnai Dorbar Shnong.
Based on information received, the police laid a trap and stopped the ambulance ML 10C 3475) in Byrnihat while it was filled with liquor. The three occupants were arrested and the alcohol seized. The trio were on the way from Byrnihat to Umsning, reportedly.
Meanwhile, in a related incident, the Ri-Bhoi police also caught a pickup truck that was being used to transport illegal liquor instead of agricultural produce. A case has been registered accordingly.
