Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong visited Nongpoh today and issued a clarion call to the people of Ri-Bhoi to be patient in the long fight against Covid-19, the second wave of which has crashed into Meghalaya.
In terms of absolute numbers, Ri-Bhoi is the second-most affected district at present, with over 200 active cases.
Tynsong held a review meeting today with MLAs, MDCs and officials from the district. Addressing the press afterwards, he appealed to the public to adhere to Covid-19 protocols throughout the state.
Although the government understands that lockdowns are difficult to bear financially for the common person, there is no other choice with coronavirus infections soaring in the state, the Deputy CM said.
The state government has been left disappointed at the turnout among the public aged 45 and above for the Covid-19 vaccine. Tynsong urged the people of this age group to get the jab and told those below 45 to be ready to come forward when the vaccine drive is extended to them.
