Nongpoh, Jul 10: The Ri-Bhoi Superintendent of Police has informed that an unidentified man was found dead at Byrnihat on the evening of July 5 following information received from a local resident.
According to police, the body was recovered from an old Sales Tax building at Byrnihat. During the preliminary inquiry, it was found that the deceased was a homeless man believed to be mentally disabled, who was frequently seen roaming around the area.
The body was shifted to Nongpoh Civil Hospital where a post-mortem examination was conducted on July 6 to ascertain the exact cause of death. Following the examination, the body was kept at the hospital morgue.
Police said the deceased was approximately 5 feet 3 inches tall, of thin build, swarthy complexion and head a moustache and short black hair. He was wearing white shorts at the time he was found.
As no one has come forward to claim the body, the police have appealed to the public for assistance in identifying the deceased. Anyone with information regarding the identity of the deceased is requested to contact the police control room on 9856084514.
