The All Garo Hills SSA School Teachers’ Association (AGHSSASTA) has written to the state government seeking the release of their two months of salary arrears before the election to the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC), which will be held on April 12.
SSA teachers have been drafted for election duty and have had to undergo training, all without being paid.
“How can we attend duties and training on an empty stomach? Most of us are from rural areas and have to travel to urban areas for this training. Who will bear our expenses while we struggle through the training and duty for election?” said AGHSSASTA President LG Momin.
“We have been informed that the PAB for 2021 is still due from the central government. Why is the state government failing to bring funds from the Centre? When will the money be available to be released to us by the state government?” asked General Secretary Benabith Ch Marak.
According to the teachers, the time for a fresh proposal is already up so there is no reason why the central government keep installments pending.
