Shillong, Jun 16: The University of Science and Technology Meghalaya (USTM) today unveiled a monumental 150 foot national flag at its ‘Knowledge Park’.
The university said in a press release that this is the tallest tricolour in the state and one of the tallest in the region. “The landmark initiative, undertaken in collaboration with the DK Flag Foundation, Mumbai, stands as a powerful symbol of national unity, patriotism and USTM’s unwavering commitment to nation-building and youth empowerment.”
The flag was ceremonially hoisted by the team from the DK Flag Foundation, led by Rakesh Bakshi, alongside USTM women NCC cadets and members. The Meghalaya Police Band from the 1st MLP Battalion, Mawiong, under the command of Herbert G Lyngdoh, presented a stirring patriotic performance.
The celebration was enriched by a display from the SFS School Girls Band, Narengi. Present at the event was USTM Vice-Chancellor Prof GD Sharma, Additional Superintendent of Police Orville Massar, Deputy Inspector General of CRPF Anil Bisht, former VC of Mumbai University Sanjay Deshmukh and USTM Chancellor Mahbubul Hoque.
Speaking on the occasion, Bakshi, known as the ‘Flagman of India’, lauded the installation of the monumental tricolour and said, “I chose USTM for the installation of this monumental national tricolour because USTM truly reflects the values of integrity, discipline, inclusiveness and nation-building.”
DK Flag Foundation is a non-profit initiative dedicated to promoting respect for the Indian national flag and fostering patriotism among citizens. The foundation works to make the tricolour a visible and accessible symbol of national pride by installing monumental flags across the country and creating awareness about the Flag Code of India.
