Shillong, Apr 23: Citing a measles outbreak in neighbouring Bangladesh, East Jaintia Hills has stepped up surveillance and asked all departments to immediately report suspected cases.
This mirrors actions taken in other districts of the state given the sharp rise in measles cases in Bangladesh since March, which has led to around 200 deaths.
Border areas are at increased risk and departments have been urged to remain vigilant to prevent any potential spread.
All cases of fever accompanied by rash, across any age group, must be treated as suspected measles and reported immediately to the nearest health facility, Auxiliary Nurse Midwife (ANM) or Medical Officer, an advisory said.
As a preventive measure, children suspected of having measles must not attend school or Anganwadi centres until fully recovered. Parents and guardians have been advised to isolate such children at home and seek medical attention at the earliest.
