KVK Ri-Bhoi celebrated the 7th Poshan Pakhwada from April 8 to 22 by conducting various programmes.
These include awareness on proper food and nutrition for women, measurement of height and weight of farm women, demonstration of nutritional gardens in schools, food security through nutritional garden in Anganwadi centres, importance of child nutrition for proper growth and development, healthy school lunch in rural schools, importance of proper nutrition and food safety through Anganwadi centres, healthy balanced diet of rural families and drawing competition for school children.
These events were conducted in different villages like Saiden, Umden, Umsaitprah, Khweng and Umroi Labansaro in Ri-Bhoi.
The programme was conducted by Eliza C Syiemlieh, Subject Matter Specialist, and Jesica Dohtdong, Programme Assistant, in collaboration with village Anganwadi centres and rural schools.
Syiemlieh delivered lectures on the importance of nutritional gardens for nutritional security, importance of a healthy balanced diet to combat nutritional deficiencies and healthy tiffins for school children. The proper method of hand washing and hygiene was imparted by the village ASHA worker.
The two-week-long programme ended with a drawing competition on healthy foods to be consumed daily by school students who are the beneficiaries of Anganwadi centres.
