Seven Congress workers were allegedly injured after a case of stones being pelted on their vehicles from the house of an NPP supporter near the village of New Bhaitbari today evening.
As per reports, the injured persons were returning from the Congress campaign in Rajabala when stones were pelted at their vehicles leading to at least seven of them being injured. The stone pelting also left three cars of the Congressmen damaged.
An FIR on the incident was filed by those injured named about 24 accused in the thrashing with the incident taking place between the villages of Garodubi – Magurmari at around 4:15 pm
“As the CM’s convoy was en route on the AMPT road, they took a detour and came through the above-mentioned route. When they reached Garodubi, stones were pelted by the accused persons leading to serious injuries. Three of the cars were also damaged. They also kidnapped the people in the vehicle and thrashed them with some receiving head injuries as well,” said the FIR by the Congress election agent, Abdul Aziz.
Aziz said that several Congress workers were missing and may have been killed by the accused.
“It was unprovoked and shows the frustration of the NPP camp. When they reached near the house of one Hasan Ali, stones were pelted at them. Afterwards some people from inside Hasan’s house took our workers and beat them up further,” said local leader, Dr Mizanur Kazi.
Kazi said that immediately after the incident the injured were rushed to the hospital where they were given medical care.
“We have informed the police on the matter and additional forces are stationed in the area. This is extremely condemnable and action needs to be taken,” felt Kazi.
