Nongpoh, Jul 16: The Synjuk Ki Rangbah Shnong (SRS) Ri-Bhoi Mihngi has demanded the MeECL to provide adequate compensation to the family of three children who were electrocuted in Umtangling village.
The incident happened on Tuesday afternoon at around 2 pm. Among the three, two were siblings aged 11 and 12 years. The victims accidentally came into contact with the electrified wire, which had snapped and fallen to the ground.
Today, members of the synjuk met with Deputy Commissioner Dr. Abhishek Saini with the demand. SRS Chairman P.B. Sylliang emphasised the need for immediate financial assistance as a form of support. He stated that while no monetary compensation could truly replace their loss, it would serve to offer some solace to the grieving family.
The SRS also expressed serious concerns regarding the failure to address previous complaints about electrical hazards in the village and said government officials should treat public safety complaints with urgency, particularly those that pose a risk to human life.
