East Jaintia Hills police arrested an elderly woman and a man and seized contraband.
The authorities intercepted a suspicious Maruti Eeco bearing registration number ML05 AE 4423 on NH-06 near Sunapur village after receiving a tip-off.
Police said when the vehicle was checked, 14 soap boxes of suspected contraband were recovered. While six of them were recovered from the woman identified as 65-year-old Gouri Das, another eight soap boxes were recovered from the body of the vehicle.
The woman along with the driver, Safiqul Alom (40) of Bhangarpar, Silchar Assam were taken under police custody for further interrogation and necessary action as per the law, police added.
A total amount of Rs. 26, 450 cash has also been recovered from both the suspected accused.
