Four men from the Jirang region of Ri-Bhoi were killed when a truck they were travelling in ran off the road and down a ravine last night. One other person in the incident was injured.
The accident took place on a hilly road in the Mynnar Jirang area. The deceased have been identified as Edward Nongkhlaw, Teilor Nongphlang, Francis Warjri (all from Iewsohksang village) and Bankerlang Khyllait (Jirang). The injured person is Benedic Syiem, who is receiving medical treatment in Shillong.
The truck was loaded with firewood when it veered off the road and fell into a deep ravine approximately 200 metres from the main road. The men were returning after transporting firewood and had planned to offload it at a nearby location.
The bodies of the deceased were taken to Nongpoh Civil Hospital for necessary formalities. Jirang MLA Sosthenes Sohtun visited their families today to offer condolences and support during this difficult time.
