The President of the Durama Wa·gegitok Secondary School has filed a complaint with the Meghalaya Lokayukta alleging that building work at his institute has been stalled for years and is only partially complete even after the contractor was paid more than Rs 34 lakh for the work done.
Lipson M Marak has made top state education official Swapnil Tembe, South Garo Hills education official Dularani Ch Sangma and the contractor, Sengrak D Sangma, as respondents.
According to the complaint, a work order was issued to Sengrak in December 2020 or 2021 (the complaint is unclear on this point) and he was expected to complete the construction of the two-storey (G+1) building in 12 months time at a cost of Rs 1.1117 crore. However, even several years beyond that deadline the work is not complete.
According to a Right to Information (RTI) request 45 per cent of the work on the project is complete and the rest is ongoing. However, Lipson disputed this, saying in the complaint that only 15 per cent is actually complete and the work has been stalled and practically abandoned by the contractor.
