Assam Rifles organised its third half marathon today at its headquarters in Laitkor, UPper Shillong to promote the Fit India Movement.
The run was open for all those aged 18 and above, both men and women.
Serving personnel and families of Assam Rifles, 101 Area, Eastern Air Command, CRPF, CISF, SSB and Meghalaya Police took part. Adding a cutting edge to the competition, seasoned cross country runners from all over the country took part in the physical and virtual mode in the event and presented a challenge to the runners of the armed forces and CAPFs.
In addition to the half marathon of 21km, there was also a 10km race. Each had its own age categories. A total of 747 people participated in the half marathon and 694 in the 10km run, both in physical and virtual mode.
Governor of Meghalaya, Phagu Chauchan, graced the occasion as the chief guest and appreciated the enthusiasm and spirit of the participants and the spectators. The Governor handed over the prizes to the winners of the 21km category.
In the U-30 category Emphius Nongrum won the men’s race and Bandasharai Marwei the women’s. In the 10km run, Iohborlang Nongspung was the winner among men and Marqueenless Ramsiej the female.
