Shillong, Aug 28: Shillong College adopted Mawkasiang village under Unnat Bharat Abhiyan on National Library Day 2026, by signing an MoU with village leadership for education and community development.
The college central library donated books to Mawkasiang community library, handed over to Rangbah Shnong Tishalding Kharkongor.
Librarian Dr Betbhalin Lyngdoh stressed Ranganathan’s Five Laws of Library Science, while Vice Principal EN Dkhar said libraries are dynamic spaces for learning that connect people with knowledge and create opportunities for learning and personal growth.
Principal Dr Shanwell Khongwir said adoption is a long-term partnership covering health, education, sports, environment and social awareness programmes.
The Rangbah Shnong thanked the college and assured community cooperation.
The programme was attended by students from various schools of Mawkasiang, village executive members, members of the Village Sports Club, members of the college administration, Campus
Committee of the college, IQAC and the Library Advisory Committee.
