Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma informed the Assembly that two people have been arrested in relation to the Rymbai mining disaster in East Jaiñtia Hills.
However, the two have been released on bail, Sangma told the house on its second day of its sitting.
The incident occurred on January 21, which happened to be Meghalaya Day. The CM added that the post-mortem report revealed that all six miners who were killed in the accident at the illegally operating mine died due to trauma, which led to multiple fractures and haemorrhages.
Sangma also informed that Section 188/304A/34 IPC read with Section 21 (5) Mines and Minerals Development and Regulation (MMDR) Act and Section 3 and 4 of this Explosive Substance Act have been applied in this case.
According to Sangma, it was revealed during the police investigation that the men were excavating earth and nearby residents informed that a person who was supervising the operation fled the scene when the mishap occurred.
