Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma today said that the state government has taken a serious view on the implementation of the Inner Line Permit (ILP) in Meghalaya.
This includes holding a series of meetings with pressure groups and constituting committees to settle on a solution to illegal migration, Sangma said in response to a Zero Hour notice tabled by Nongpoh MLA Mayralborn Syiem.
Earlier, taking up the notice, Syiem said that one cannot mix ILP with the Sixth Schedule. Syiem had raised an old news report which stated that Union Home Minister Amit Shah had asked the Meghalaya government to decide if they wanted ILP or the Sixth Schedule.
“We have privileges like the land holding system and (preserving our) culture through the Sixth Schedule,” the Congress legislator said, adding that it cannot be compromised in the demand for ILP.
