Shillong, Jun 25: The Central Integrated Pest Management Centre (CIPMC) Shillong, in collaboration with the State Bio-control Laboratory, organised an awareness-cum-training programme under Khet Bachao Abhiyan 2026 yesterday at the District Training Office in Upper Shillong.
The programme was attended by 100 farmers and other participants and focused on promoting safe and judicious use of pesticides, pesticide residue management, use of personal protective equipment (PPE), integrated pest management (IPM), conservation of natural enemies and eco-friendly pest management practices. Demonstrations on the use of yellow sticky traps and pheromone traps were also conducted for pest monitoring and management.
CIPMC Shillong provided technical guidance on sustainable pest and disease management, while officials from the State Bio-control Laboratory highlighted the importance of biopesticides and biofertilisers in reducing dependence on chemical pesticides and improving soil health.
The programme concluded with an interactive session, followed by a pledge-taking ceremony where all participating farmers and officials pledged to promote the safe and judicious use of pesticides, adopt environmentally friendly crop protection practices and support sustainable agriculture under the national campaign.
