A 27 year old woman was allegedly slashed in the throat leading to her death in a parking lot in Pyndengumiong, Mairang under Eastern West Khasi Hills on Monday evening at around 5 pm.
The victim, Phyrnailin Kharsyntiew of Mawkhap Mawkynrang was attacked in front of her father, Sarding Mairang in full public glare.
The accused, who is believed to be her former boyfriend, was identified as Roberto Marngar (25) of Shyiap Mawnai.
According to the victim’s father, his daughter had told him that she wanted to end the relationship with the man.
Mairang said when they met at the parking lot he had spoken to the accused and asked him about their unresolved issues. However, the accused suddenly pounced on his daughter and slashed her throat with a knife in full public glare.
An alert public intervened and were successful in nabbing him. The public caught Roberto and detained him before he was handed over to the police.
After the brutal attack on Phyrnailin, she was rushed to Mairang Civil hospital but succumbed to her injuries.
The family of the victim suspects that the attack was to end the relationship and to shame and destroy her reputation.

The brutal attack has shocked the local community, raising concerns over violence against women in the region.
Calling for justice to the victim and strict legal action against the accused, Tisharlang Kharsyntiew, the younger brother of the victim, said the family fully trusts the law and wants the harshest punishment for the accused so it serves as a deterrent to others.
Although his sister had been in a relationship with the accused, he said the family was not closely acquainted with him.
