A one day workshop for teachers was held yesterday to help them identify the signs of stress and depressions in children as well as basic techniques of counselling.
With children spending almost as much time in school with friends and teachers as they do at home with their parents, it is imperative that teachers be trained as the first line of defence in protecting and helping children deal with stress and depression.
Considering this, the workshop was organised for teachers of 10 different schools from Shillong city so that counselling for a child who is feeling stressed or depressed can be done on an immediate basis until professional help is obtained.
The workshop was organised by Child Friendly Shillong, a project under Bosco Integrated Development Society (BIDS), in collaboration with the office of the District Child Protection Unit of East Khasi Hills at St Anthony’s College.
