Shillong, Jul 30: Meghalaya’s rising independent singer-songwriter Cherry Mrong is set to take the sound of the Garo Hills across India with the Groove & Bloom Tour 2026, a four-city live tour under the Chief Minister’s Meghalaya Grassroots Music Project.
The tour is conceptualised and curated by Nokpante Productions, with support from Meghalaya Tourism and Meghalayan Age Limited.
Known for her soulful vocals and a blend of indie pop and funk, Cherry represents a new wave of artists shaping the state’s independent music scene. More than a concert series, Groove & Bloom aims to connect homegrown talent with national audiences and showcase Meghalaya’s contemporary creative identity on some of India’s most respected live stages.
The tour kicked off on July 29 at Depot48 in New Delhi and continues on July 30 at The Piano Man in Gurugram, July 31 at Skinny Mo’s Jazz Club in Kolkata, and concludes on August 2 at The Humming Tree in Bengaluru.
A singer-songwriter from Tura, Cherry first drew attention as runner-up at Launchpad 2022 and later won Best Potential Band at Prime Music Incubation 2023. Her original tracks like “Saksan,” “Jachipchang” and “Bebeanma,” along with her collaboration with Nokpante on “Me•gong Bibal,” have cemented her place in the Garo music scene. She has also performed at the Me•gong Festival, Hills Festival, TriHills Festival and Shillong Literary Festival, and represented Meghalaya Tourism at the Waves Summit in Mumbai.
Organisers say the tour reflects Meghalaya’s growing footprint in India’s independent music movement and how public initiatives can create national platforms for emerging artists.
