Two separate traffic restrictions have been instituted in Jowai, it was announced today.
The first, a trial, will run from November 6. The Superintendent of Police has ordered that the road will be one way only from the Deputy Commissioner’s point to Presbyterian church at Mission Compound. No entry for vehicles will be imposed towards Iawmusiang from the Presbyterian church junction at Mission. However, vehicles coming from Iongpiah, Dulong, Lumiongkjam and other areas will be diverted to ply via Chutwakhu Road.
The internal road from Chutwakhu to Meghalaya Studio near Sein Raj parking lot will be converted into an entry road and be one way.
Meanwhile, a meeting and inspection was held between police and local bodies in Iawmusiang and Mission Compound areas regarding traffic congestion in the two places.
Therefore, in order to minimise traffic congestion it was decided that there will be no entry allowed for all kinds of heavy vehicles from 7am to 8pm. In addition, medium and light motor vehicles like mini trucks, Bolero pickups and other goods carriers will not be allowed to park around Iawmusiang and Mission Compound Road from 8am to 7pm, which means that all loading and unloading should be done before 8am or after 7pm.
In case of any emergencies that require exceptions to the above, special permission should be obtained from the SP’s office.
