The Public Works Department (PWD) has cancelled the work orders of six bridge projects around Mendipathar, North Garo Hills, because of slow progress by the contractors.
The Meghalaya Democratic Alliance government has been trying to hurry along roadworks, with Chief Minister Conrad Sangma frequently taking to social media to castigate or praise (depending on the case) contractors for their work rate.
Meanwhile, PWD Minister Prestone Tynsong today told the Assembly that the construction of the Khasimara Bridge in Ryngku, East Khasi Hills, and approach roads has been proposed under the NABARD Infrastructure Development Assistance (NIDA) and the sanction for the Rs 24 crore project is expected to be received by the end of the month.
On the Mendipathar projects, Tynsong said that the delays are all down to the original contractors. New tenders were issued and what remaining work is ongoing.
