Shillong, Nov 7: Accusing the government of breaking its written assurance on dearness allowance, deficit school teachers on Saturday resolved to intensify their agitation over provident fund, pension and DA.
The decision was taken at the annual general meeting of the Khasi Jaintia Deficit School Teachers Association (KJDSTA), attended by serving and retired teachers and employees from LP, Primary, Upper Primary, Secondary and Higher Secondary sections.
“We will not give up. We will keep fighting for our dues, for our rights, for the rights of education. We will keep agitating,” association president Boswell Pala told reporters after the meeting.
Pala said the government had, in a letter dated October 8, 2026, assured release of DA and arrears before the Puja holidays, but failed to do so. When the association met the Commissioner and Secretary on November 4, the officials pretended to be unaware of the procedure, he alleged.
He also flagged the delay in releasing the RDA enhancement of 51 per cent and 53 per cent, and the stoppage of the Centralised Provident Fund constituted in May 2023.
Other pending issues raised at the meeting included non-implementation of NPS for post-April 2010 teachers, the push for Scheme 2026 which the association has rejected, and formation of a new Board of Trustees without the association’s members.
Pala further warned against the government’s move to push the Single Provident Fund (SPF) or composite grant into the deficit system and the denial of permission to advertise deficit posts, saying it would weaken deficit posts and hit students and aspiring teachers.
He said the core committee will soon announce the next course of action.
