West Khasi Hills and Ri-Bhoi won the girls’ and boys’ titles at the Chief Minister’s State Level U-12 Football Tournament 2023 on the final day at the SAI Centre here today.
The earlier girls’ final was goalless during regulation time, so the match went to penalties where WKH were 4-2 winners against East Jaintia Hills.
Later, Shanborlang Khongjee (2′, 37′, 50′) scored a hat-trick as Ri-Bhoi stormed to a 4-0 victory against West Jaintia Hills in the boys’ final. The other goal was scored by Prin Lang Roi (13′).
Individual awards were also handed out at the prize distribution ceremony. From the boys’ category, Subhrata Rabha (North Garo Hills) was the Best Goalkeeper and Shamiki Myrchiang (WJH) the Best Player. Among the girls, Larishisha Dkhar (EJH) was Best Goalkeeper and Nazarine D Sangma (WKH) was Best Player.
East Khasi Hills Deputy Commissioner RM Kurbah was the chief guest. Also present were Meghalaya State Olympic Association working president John F Kharshiing, PB War Nongbri and K Passah, both Assistant Directors of Sports & Youth Affairs.
