Shillong, May 23: Residents of Shillong and surrounding areas are advised to store water in advance as the Public Health Engineering (PHE) department will shut down the water supply on May 25 from 10 am to 4pm.
The shutdown is necessitated to allow installation of new 6.6 kV high tension panels as part of the Greater Shillong Water Supply Scheme (GSWSS). The upgrade aims to replace aging pumps that are crucial in powering the city’s main water supply network.
The new high tension panels are expected to enhance the efficiency of the pumping system, reducing breakdowns and ensuring a more reliable water supply for the majority of Shillong’s population.
The Chief Engineer of PHE said during the maintenance window, there will be no water supply and expressed regret for any inconvenience the shutdown may cause.
