Shillong, May 23: The Laitlyngkot-Lyngkyrdem stretch along the Shillong-Dawki road will be closed for traffic starting May 25, the Pynursla civil sub-division administration said.
The decision comes amidst safety risks posed due to ongoing construction work.
According to the new traffic plan, the road will be closed from Monday to Wednesday between 11 am to 3 pm and a full closure on Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays.
The administration said that the existing night blockade will also continue as per earlier orders. The arrangement is temporary and will remain effective until further review, ensuring the safety of all commuters during hazardous weather conditions.
Commuters have been advised to avoid non-essential travel on the stretch during or immediately after heavy rainfall, especially at night, due to monsoon-related risks.
Emergency vehicles including ambulances, fire service, and police may be allowed during closure hours subject to on-site safety assessment by authorities. For assistance, the public can contact Pynursla Police Station.
