The Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP) has denied using any provocative slogans during its shobha yatra to celebrate Hanuman Jayanti and said the organisation is committed to maintain religious harmony in the state at all times.
This came after the Khasi Students Union (KSU) lodged a complaint to the district authorities against the VHP for taking out a procession on April 2 as its participants allegedly shouted slogans that they will convert Meghalaya into a Hindu state.
However, the VHP said their customary slogan like “Jai shree Ram”, which means hail the Lord Ram are made by devotees and it is not provocative.
In a statement, the VHP said the organization celebrated Ram Janam Utsav in Shillong from March 30 and 31, April 1 and was followed by Shobha Yatra (procession) on April 2.
“VHP respects the sentiments of all religions and has high respect for the indigenous people of our state.
Meanwhile, the VHP said that there was no rally scheduled yesterday.
