The body of an unidentified man in a decomposed state was recovered from a roadside in East Jaintia Hills.on Sunday.
The discovery of the body was rather fortuitous as it came about after a passenger travelling from Mizoram answered nature’s call while passing through the area around Kuliang on National Highway 6 at approximately 7am on Sunday.
It was then that the passenger discovered the body, which was found wrapped in a blanket. Because of decomposition, the body was emitting a strong odour.
Police stationed on the highway were informed and Sub-Inspector P Phawa and other personnel went to the site, which was some 8km away from the Kuliang police patrol post.
An inquest was conducted on the spot but no injury marks could be discerned due to the advanced state of decomposition. The deceased is estimated to have been between 35 and 40 years old, 5 feet 5 inches tall, of medium build and with a fair complexion. He was wearing black trousers, a green t-shirt and had a white thread tied around his waist, suggesting that he was a Hindu.
The body was then taken to Khliehriat Civil Hospital for an autopsy. Those who can identify the body are requested to phone 8131904491.
