Shillong, Apr 17: A newly constructed CC road at Apha, Umkiang village in the East Jaintia Hills district, constructed under the District Mineral Foundation (DMF) scheme at Rs 40 lakh, was inaugurated today.
The CC road is expected to enhance connectivity in the region and to provide better access to essential services, thereby boosting the local economy. Farmers in particular will benefit from improved transportation of their produce, facilitating more efficient market access and encouraging agricultural growth in Umkiang village.
Sutnga Saipung MLA Santa Mary Shylla, Deputy Commissioner, Manish Kumar and community members were present during the inauguration function.
In her address, Shylla stressed the importance of collaborative efforts among various stakeholders to ensure continued development across sectors. She also mentioned the Vibrant Villages Programme (VVP) that could bring in approximately 3 crores of investment to Umkiang if the village is selected.
The Deputy Commissioner noted that East Jaintia Hills District has been receiving sizeable amount of funds from industrial and mining activities in the form of royalty which is being invested in rural development initiatives, particularly in the health, education and community development sectors.
