Shillong, Oct 5: MP Saleng A. Sangma on Monday chaired the District Development Coordination and Monitoring Committee (DISHA) meeting of South West Garo Hills at the DRDA Conference Hall, Ampati, to review implementation and progress of centrally sponsored schemes.
Sangma said effective coordination among departments, timely implementation and greater accountability are essential, adding that success of development schemes should be measured by benefits reaching people at the grassroots, particularly those dependent on government interventions for essential services and livelihood support.
He called upon departmental officials to maintain close coordination in addressing implementation-related issues and to ensure delays do not affect delivery of benefits to eligible beneficiaries. He stressed regular monitoring and field-level assessment to identify gaps and take corrective measures.
The Tura MP said elected representatives and implementing agencies must work together to ensure programmes are implemented in a transparent, efficient and result-oriented manner, and that issues raised during review should be followed up so decisions translate into tangible outcomes on ground.
Officials from Education, Medical and Health, PHE, DRDA, PWD (Roads), MePDCL, Social Welfare, Food and Civil Supplies, Agriculture, Horticulture, Animal Husbandry and Veterinary, Soil and Water Conservation, Tourism, Fisheries, Water Resources, District Commerce and Industries Centre and Lead Bank presented updates on schemes under their jurisdictions.
The meeting reviewed progress, examined implementation challenges and discussed measures to improve coordination, monitoring and service delivery.
