Shillong, Oct 5: Meghalaya accounted for two major completions worth Rs 14.03 crore as the North Eastern Council (NEC) recorded closure of 14 infrastructure projects valued at Rs 45.48 crore in September 2026.
In a press release today, the NEC said in Meghalaya the completed projects include construction of school buildings at Mawthadraishan in West Khasi Hills at Rs 4.75 crore and development of the Cultural Complex of Seng Khasi Ri Raid Laban at Lumshatsngi Kenches Trace at Rs 9.28 crore.
Overall, NEC released a total of Rs 42.63 crore during September to support development projects across the region. Of this, Rs 35.21 crore was allocated to the North Eastern states, while Rs 7.42 crore went to regional institutions and agencies for capacity building, infrastructure and technology.
Among states, Nagaland received Rs 11.92 crore for cluster-based coffee value chain development and a cultural activity complex at Pfutseromi village for the Chakhesang tribe. Mizoram received Rs 6.29 crore for auditorium at Bethel Veng, Champhai, cultural tourism infrastructure at Vangchhia, Mizo Ginger cultivation, IT-based mineral mapping and community infrastructure in Siaha district.
Assam received Rs 4.42 crore for student hostels at Bineswar Brahma Engineering College, Kokrajhar and Singpho community initiatives in Tinsukia. Sikkim received Rs 4.17 crore for town CCTV surveillance and a multi-purpose hall at Government Degree College, Rhenock.
Arunachal Pradesh received Rs 3.40 crore for nursing hostel at District Hospital, Yingkiong, Acheso tourism complex in Dibang Valley and Ziro Signature View Point. Tripura and Manipur received instalments for ongoing projects including Model Haat for tribal youth, Khumulwng Eco-Park upgrades, programmes linked to 150th birth anniversary of Birsa Munda, medicinal plants documentation and museum-cum-library at Tribal Research Institute.
Under regional allocation of Rs 7.42 crore, North East Cane and Bamboo Development Council received Rs 2.88 crore for bamboo artisan clusters, North Eastern Handicrafts and Handloom Development Corporation Rs 2.35 crore for handloom skill development and North East Centre for Technology Application and Research Rs 1.24 crore for remote school STEM laboratories, along with contributions to NEDFi, NIT Meghalaya, IIM Shillong, NEHU and NESAC.
Other completed projects during September include development of Music & Youth Activity Centre at Yasogei, Kohima at Rs 9.17 crore and auditorium at Phek GHS at Rs 1.92 crore in Nagaland, Girls Hostel at JN College, Pasighat at Rs 4.27 crore in Arunachal Pradesh and Backward Community Scheme for Limboo Community at Rs 4.53 crore in Sikkim.
Three agriculture projects in Karbi Anglong and West Karbi Anglong, Assam worth Rs 11.55 crore were also closed, along with sector initiatives including bamboo processing prototype processors, IT Education Programme covering 150 schools in Mizoram, AVGC and IT-ITES training gap-funding, AI & Emerging Technologies Seminar and She-Friendly Programme covering 20 institutions in Shillong, the press release said.
